Jefferson Curriculum

Art, music and physical education are an important aspect of education at Jefferson.

Students attend classes on a rotation schedule. 

Jefferson Elementary has incorporated the Character Counts! program into its educational curriculum in an effort to encourage the development of moral character in students.

The district's character education program - Character Counts! - includes six character qualities taught and reinforced during the year. Each site develops its own program around these character qualities.

The Character Counts! traits are Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Trustworthiness, Fairness and Citizenship.

Children who are identified as “gifted and talented” may participate in additional academic studies, having demonstrated potential abilities of high performance capability and needing differentiated or accelerated education or services.

Jefferson offers an English Learner curriculum to those students for whom English is not a primary language. Students participate in small group instruction that focuses on the English language.

The Extended Day Program (EDP) provides safe, alternative educational child care, enhancing the child’s extended day. Recognizing the busy lifestyles of today’s family, the district attempts to work in partnership with home and parents by providing before and after school supervision at the school site.

Union Intramural Sports provides Union students opportunities to participate in athletics at a recreational level in flag football, basketball, and volleyball.

Student Council

Jefferson students also participate in a Student Council.  

Union Public Schools is dedicated to providing students with a comprehensive math education, emphasizing conceptual understanding through hands-on experiences and a progression from concrete to abstract learning. Learn more.

Jarman has an active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) that works closely with school administration and teachers to promote a positive school experience for all students. Some of the highlights of the school year are the Family Fun Night, Book Fair, Bingo Night, and Jog-A-Thon. Jarman families and staff come together to enjoy fun events while working to raise funds for classroom materials and projects.  

There are many ways that parents and family members can volunteer and support students at Jarman. Opportunities may include sharing your talents, attending PTA events, assisting with Freckles Fridays, Reflections, Test Monitoring, Classroom Projects, Book Fair, Jog-a-Thon, Family Fun Night, and more! We love our volunteers!

The Reflections program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition.

Students are encouraged to create and submit works of art in six areas:  dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts (which includes art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, and collage).

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) at Union Public Schools is an interdisciplinary approach to learning that encourages students to inquire, explore, and problem solve.
